Romania holds a proud place in gymnastics history, thanks in large part to the legendary Nadia Comăneci, who scored the first perfect 10 in Olympic competition in 1976. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Romanian gymnasts were consistently on the podium, especially in women's artistic gymnastics. However, Romania’s dominance has waned in recent decades, and they no longer produce the medal volume of countries like the U.S., China, or Russia. While their legacy is etched in history, Romania does not lead the all-time gold medal count in Olympic gymnastics.
