A 40-year-old man is confronted with accusations of murder after he allegedly drove to the boat to a boat bar in North Carolina on Saturday night and opened a fire, killed three and injured at least eight others.
Nigel Edge was arrested on Sunday and accused of three first -degree murder estimates, five attempts to commit first -degree murder and five assault with a deadly weapon, intention to kill, South Commission conference Todd Corining said at a conference at the Sunday Morning Commission. The police believe Edge behaved alone and said the attack was “very thoughtful.”
The extent of all injuries is unknown, but at least one of the victims is “now on his life,” said John David, a lawyer for District 5 of the North Carolina District 5 on Sunday.
The additional charges are still possible, said Coring. According to Oak Island Police Chief Charles A. Morris II, who added that the suspect was a resident of Oak Island and known to the police, was taken to custody when the US Coast Guard faced his boat after the attack.
Shooting in a small idyllic quay community adds to the growing list of bars, restaurants, supermarkets, schools and other parts of the US, which is usually considered safe, which has suffered from weapons violence. According to the archive of weapons violence, there were at least 320 mass shootings – defined as when at least four people, excluding the Sagittarius – so far in the US.
“The evil came to the shore in Southport, North Carolina,” David said, describing the community as a place where the violent crime is ‘practically non -existent’.
Just before 9:30 p.m. The ship approached the tape and the only person on board opened the fire, the city public information officer Chyann Ketchum said in a press release. The Sagittarius then fled towards the nearby inner water road, driving in the direction of the neighboring Oak Island community.
Many of the shooting victims seem to be on vacation, David said. The shooting revealed at the quay deck, where people “just enjoyed live music under the stars,” he said.
“The thread that connects everyone who is a victim in this case, in this case, seems to have only love to have a good time and enjoy everything the Southport offers,” he said.
David said the victims could be made public on Monday after their families were announced.
“I am hurting the shooting last night in Southport, which tragically took three lives and injured others,” North Carolina Governor Josh Stein said in a report. He said he and his wife “pray for their families and friends. I have a contact with state and local law enforcement and the state will provide any necessary support.”
“Southport is a small but strong community. Can we all come together to support them because they are healing for this horrific shooting,” Stein said.
Edge should appear in court on Monday. According to the district lawyer, he is considered without bonds.
The motive is not identified, but there is no “well -known reliable threats to society,” the city statement said.
Southport is located near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, about 30 miles south of Wilmington.
CNN approached the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the Coast Guard Service and the American fish company to comment and try to determine whether Edge has a lawyer.
